Dianto and Thijs are guests at Paprika Tasty Radio
On September 11, Dianto, specialist cultivation employee at WPK, and Thijs, general manager at plant nursery P. van Geest, were guests on Paprika Tasty Radio. During the broadcast on this horticultural channel, Dianto and Thijs told more about the collaboration between WPK and P. van Geest. Because how did the collaboration actually come about? And are we “married” to P. van Geest or are we still calling it a “courtship”? The duo also discussed the latest developments in the field of growing both vegetable plants and ornamental plants. Strong together!
Zo’n vier jaar geleden heersten bij zowel WPK als P. van Geest behoefte aan extra kweekruimte in bepaalde delen van het jaar. Laten wij – WPK en P. van Geest – elkaar hier nu precies in afwisselen. Een perfecte match op basis van vertrouwen dus. “Samen sta je sterk, maar wel door het behouden van je eigen identiteit. Vier jaar later is dit nog steeds het geval”, vertelt Thijs. Buiten het delen van de teeltlocatie, zijn we ook meteen nagegaan waar we elkaar in konden verbeteren en aanvullen. Zo zijn verschillende processen op het gebied van teelt en productie geoptimaliseerd en hebben we de IT op elkaar afgestemd. Ook een gezamenlijke planning en inkoop horen bij onze samenwerking. En weet je wat hier zo mooi aan is? Niets hoeft overhaast te gebeuren, zoals veelal het geval is bij het samengaan van verschillende bedrijven.

Developments in cultivation
You may hear it coming up more and more often: resilient cultivation. During the visit to Parpika Tasty Radio, Dianto explains how we ensure a higher degree of plant resilience. “Together with P. van Geest we are busy with Natural Power Seeds (NPS). This is actually a kind of seed treatment that makes the crop more vigorous and therefore more resilient. We have also developed another solution to deliver stronger plants.”
During the radio broadcast, the presenter noted that more and more seed houses are also starting (vegetable) plant nurseries. “A good example of this is the cooperation between WPK and Plantfactory,” says Thijs. Dianto complements his colleague with the fact that through our ties with Plantfactory, which is a subsidiary of the Israeli TomaTech, we can offer a wider range of tomato varieties.
